Zombies are a fictional type of undead and archetype, originating in Haitian folklore.

In classic Haitian folklore, zombies were corpses reanimated by a voodoo sorcerer, known as a bokor, for him to use as mindless slaves. In more recent media, zombies retain their nature of mindless reanimated corpses, but tend to be reanimated en masse, often without the aid of any practiconer of black magic. These zombies are made all the more dangerous by their craving of human flesh (or, occasionally, of human brains) and the fact that one who is bitten by a zombie will turn into a zombie themselves (this element is lifted from other popular creatures like vampires and werewolves).
