Dementors are similar to their official counterparts on the surface, but actually possess feelings. It is clarified that they have genders and reproduce asexually. The Dementors refer to themselves as Mind People, due to their telepathic ability, which goes farther than the ability to suck out happy memories and allows them to communicate with humans or with each other without speaking, which they are unable to do. Dementors originated in cold Northern climates, to which they are best suited, before the Ministry of Magic offered them the employ of guards of Azkaban, where they would have many people to feed on.
